Mayflies and Caddis
Mayflies on Display
Tying realistic Mayflies for display has always been a passion of mine. What angler cannot be impressed by the absolute perfection held in the delicate wings of a mayfly.

Can you fish them?
Although I can make realistic Mayflies that float and can be fished, I do not tend to do so due to the amount of time they take to make. When trout are keyed in on Mayflies a hyper realistic version is no advantage in my experience.

Complicated life cycle
The Caddis has a complicated life cycle and all stages are important to trout and fly fishers in general. Realistic imitations can be made to represent each life stage.

The eternal struggle
Ask any realistic fly dresser and they will tell you that mayfly wings are nearly impossible to accurately replicate. It is the holy grail of realistic tying for many.... me included!

Caddis and their imitations
Another one of my favourite types of fly to fish with and tie realistic versions of are the Caddis flies and their various stages.

Fishable versions?
Similar to the Mayflies. Although realistic versions of all of the stages of a Caddis life cycle can be made, I only make fishable versions of the cased caddis and the pupa (not shown here).
